Made with chiyogami washi paper, Slow Old Man is the very first film of Noburō Ōfuji, and it demonstrates the artisanal craft and narrative wit that would make him the most important and influential of Japan's animation pioneers. The film was considered lost for nearly a century, but a slightly shrunken print was recently discovered by the Kobe Planet Film Archive.
